Filter cartridges
Definition
Introduction to filter cartridges
Filter cartridges are filtration elements designed to retain solid particles, sediments, microorganisms and contaminants present in liquids or gases. They are composed of a filter medium contained in a cylindrical structure that allows the passage of fluid while capturing impurities. Its use is essential in multiple industrial, pharmaceutical, food and environmental sectors to ensure the purity and quality of the final product.
Their modular design and versatility allow them to be easily integrated into existing filtration systems, offering efficient solutions for the removal of contaminants in highly demanding processes. Filter cartridges can vary in size, material and degree of filtration, adapting to different needs and types of fluids.
Types of filter cartridges
Pleated filter cartridges
Pleated cartridges are made up of filter media that is folded in an accordion or pleated shape to maximize the filtration surface area. This configuration allows for greater particle holding capacity and high flow while maintaining a low pressure drop. They are very common in applications where fine and efficient filtration is required, such as in the food and pharmaceutical industries.
These cartridges can be made of materials such as polypropylene, polyester or PVDF, which gives them chemical and thermal resistance depending on the application. Its structure facilitates cleaning and replacement, optimizing operating costs.
Depth filter cartridges
Depth cartridges retain particles in the mass of the filter media, not just on the surface. They are composed of fibers or porous materials that allow the capture of contaminants at different levels within the cartridge. This makes them ideal for removing large particles and sediments from high solids liquids.
Their retention capacity is high and they can handle large volumes of fluid without quickly clogging. However, filtration is usually less fine than with pleated cartridges, so they are used in initial stages of filtration or for pretreatment.
