Experimental areas
Introduction
The Experimental Station for Arid Zones (EEZA) is a Spanish research center dependent on the Higher Council for Scientific Research (CSIC) (which in turn belongs to the Ministry of Education and Science), dedicated to the study of the landscape, ecosystem and biology of arid and semi-arid zones. It also stands out for the effort in the recovery of North African species of ungulates close to extinction.
Description
The Station is located in Almería, and has study areas established throughout its province, highlighting the Tabernas Desert, Punta Entinas-Sabinar and the Cabo de Gata natural park among other ecologically significant areas.
The Saharan Fauna Rescue Park was born with one main objective: to prevent the extinction of species of large ungulates that inhabited the Western Sahara: Gazella dama mhorr"), Gazella dorcas neglecta"), Gazella cuvieri and Ammotragus lervia sahariensis").
Goals
• - Conservation and captive breeding of North African ungulates.
• - General conservation of biodiversity in arid areas.
• - Functional ecology studies.
• - Studies of morphological and behavioral ecology.
• - Electronic instrumentation systems adapted to biology and telemetry systems.
• - Study of climatic variables in the desert.
• - Saharan Fauna Rescue Park.
• - Natural spaces in Almería.
