According to the Audit Regulations, AENOR (Spanish Association for Standardization) is responsible for granting the ecological label. It has also developed regulations that establish audit standards, environmental management systems and environmental terminology. If quality and environmental objectives go hand in hand, the environmental audit system fits perfectly with the Total Quality Control (CTC) model implemented very successfully by the Japanese several years ago.

In accordance with the EU Regulation for companies in the industrial sector to adhere to the community system of Eco-management and Eco-Audit, environmental audits must have such content that allows the company to establish its own environmental policy. They also generate the information necessary to evaluate the environmental behavior of the company, taking as reference the community, national, regional and local regulations as well as the technological improvements available.[4]​

The aspects that must be taken into account are:
