Emergency signaling
Introduction
ISO 7010 is an ISO "Standard (technology)") for graphic hazard symbols on safety signs, including those indicating emergency exits "Emergency exit (safety)"). It uses the colors and principles set out in ISO 3864 for these symbols, and is intended to give "safety information that relies minimally on the use of words to achieve understanding."[1] It is distinct from the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals specified by the United Nations to standardize the classification and labeling of hazardous materials.
As of September 2022, the latest version is ISO 7010:2019, with 6 modifications published.[2] This revision cancels and replaces ISO 20712-1:2008, incorporating the water and beach safety signs specified therein.
Color and shape
ISO 7010 specifies five color and shape combinations to distinguish between the type of information presented.[3].
