Porcelain bushings are predominantly applied in medium-voltage outdoor electrical equipment, such as transformers and switchgear rated up to 52 kV, where their rigidity and weather resistance provide durable performance in substations and transmission systems.[30] Despite their robustness, limitations include vulnerability to seismic events, particularly base fractures that can compromise the entire assembly during earthquakes. Additionally, regular partial discharge monitoring enables early detection of incipient faults, allowing intervention before progression to breakdown; online PD systems track activity levels to predict remaining useful life.[62][63][64][65]
