Elastic instability
Introduction
Elastic instability refers to a set of geometric nonlinearity phenomena that manifests itself in that the displacements in a structural element are not proportional to the applied forces. This is evident when verifying that within certain ranges of displacements and forces the equations that model the structural element present non-linearity. This behavior is also verified with scaled physical models or even in real life-size pieces.
