EDGE Expert
Definition
Introduction to EDGE Expert
EDGE Expert is an international certification aimed at professionals in the construction sector seeking to specialize in sustainable design and construction. This certification validates the ability of experts to apply the standards and methodologies of the EDGE system (Excellence in Design for Greater Efficiencies) in building and urban development projects.
The main objective of EDGE Expert is to promote efficiency in the use of resources such as energy, water and materials in the construction sector, contributing to the reduction of environmental impact and the mitigation of climate change. This certification is granted by the International Finance Corporation (IFC), a member of the World Bank Group, and is aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Origin and Conceptual Framework of EDGE Expert
EDGE Certification Basics
The EDGE (Excellence in Design for Greater Efficiencies) certification was developed by the IFC to promote the construction of more sustainable buildings by optimizing the use of resources. Unlike other systems, EDGE focuses on quantifiable efficiency, facilitating the evaluation and certification of new and existing projects.
EDGE Expert emerges as an evolution of the EDGE system, aimed at training professionals to implement and manage projects under EDGE standards, guaranteeing that buildings and developments meet strict efficiency and sustainability criteria.
This conceptual framework is based on three fundamental pillars: reduction of energy consumption by at least 20%, water savings by 20% and use of sustainable materials by 20% compared to a standard building. These objectives allow the environmental performance of the project to be evaluated with clear and measurable parameters.
Relationship with other certification systems
EDGE is designed to complement and, in some cases, integrate with other internationally recognized certification systems, such as LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) and BREEAM (Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method).
