Dredging (ACS)
Introduction
Dragados, formerly known as Dragados y Construcciones, is a Spanish construction company that is part of the ACS group.
History
It was created in 1941 by the civil engineers Luis Sánchez Guerra" and Ildefonso Sánchez del Río to carry out the execution of the west dock of the port of Palma de Mallorca that had been awarded to them by competition.[1] After its foundation, the company welcomed many engineers who, like Luis Sánchez Guerra himself, had suffered interruptions in their career or who had been expelled from the state ranks due to the repression of the Franco regime after the end of the Civil War.
The company grew rapidly until, around 1951, it became the first public works company in Spain. During the post-war period, it came to employ forced labor dependent on the Board for the Redemption of Penalties.[2].
In 1965 he created the International Engineering and Technical Studies consultancy (INTECSA).[3].
Over the years the company expanded internationally, becoming part of the Dragados Group. In 2002, after the sale for 900 million euros of the 23.5% stake of the Santander Central Hispano bank to its competitor ACS, chaired by Florentino Pérez, the Dragados group became part of the ACS group.[4].
