Diplomatic urban planning
Introduction
Juan Carlos García Pérez de Arce (Santiago, January 3, 1971) is a Chilean architect, diplomat, and politician, member of the Liberal Party "Partido Liberal de Chile (2013)") (PL). Since January 2024, he has been Ambassador of Chile to Canada. [1] Between March 2022 and March 2023 he served as Minister of Public Works "Ministerio de Obras Públicas (Chile)") of his country, under the government of President Gabriel Boric.[2][3].
Trained as an urban planner in France, he participated in the Country Service organization in the Aysén Region, from where he promoted nationally recognized initiatives.[2] He also served as executive director of the Interdisciplinary Neuroscience Center of the University of Valparaíso.[2].
Family and studies
He was born in Santiago de Chile on January 3, 1971, son of Carlos Alberto García Lazcano and María Isabel Pérez de Arce Antoncich.[2] He completed his primary and secondary studies at Saint George's College in the commune of Vitacura.[4] He continued his studies in architecture at the School of Architecture and Design of the Pontifical Catholic University of Valparaíso (PUCV), and then completed a master's degree in management. urban of the École Nationale des Ponts et Chaussées in Paris, France.[2].
He is married to Xochitl Tatiana Poblete Rojas, with whom he is the father of two children.[2].
Professional career
Within his professional career, he has worked in the Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning (Minvu), a position from which he actively collaborated in the declaration of the commune of Valparaíso as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.[2].
He has also been an advisor to the Production Development Corporation (Corfo), where he promoted programs that aimed to encourage private investment in the Valparaíso Region.[2].
In the same way, it has promoted important projects in said region, such as the construction of the Valparaíso Cultural Park, the Quillota Municipal Stadium, the Pompeya Theater in Villa Alemana and the Pedro Aguirre Cerda house in Calle Larga, among others.
Since 2011 he served as executive director of the Interdisciplinary Neuroscience Center of the University of Valparaíso (CINV), where he developed the institutional management, the relationship with the community and the dissemination projects of the research center.[5].
