DHW accumulator
Introduction
Domestic hot water (DHW) is water intended for human consumption (drinking) that has been heated. It is used for sanitary uses (bathrooms, showers, etc.) and for other cleaning uses (dishwashing, washing machine, dishwasher, floor scrubbing). Normally the water comes from the building's water installation.
In many countries it is considered a basic and mandatory service in homes.
History
Herodotus says that in his time if it was necessary to take a hot bath, the best method was to pour water over hot stones.[1] Hot water was used abundantly in the Roman baths. Called (in France) "bain maure" ("Moorish bath", referring to those of the Muslim Spain of Al-Andalus) or "Turkish bath" by other Westerners, the hammam (حمّام meaning "hot water" in Arabic) is a humid steam bath with origins in the Roman baths.
Consumption
The consumption of domestic hot water has to adjust to the habits of the home's users. The following table shows the approximate consumption of each element for each service use.[2] It must be taken into account that these quantities are water mixed with cold:.
Preparation methods
Contenido
El agua caliente sanitaria puede prepararse de dos modos fundamentalmente:.
By accumulation
In an accumulator tank[3] the water is heated by an external boiler and often with other energy (see solar hot water), to have, at any time, sufficient quantity for the intended uses in the installation. This system, which is called centralized, can also prepare water for a single user (a single home or premises) or for many users (collective system). If the accumulation tank and the pipes are of sufficient size, many points can use the service at the same time, reaching the point of being used by an entire neighborhood community, a hotel or a hospital. From an energy point of view, it is much more efficient than the next one. In the case of a single user, it can also be heated by an electric resistance located inside the accumulator, although the heating is slow given the power that electricity can provide, for economic reasons.
