With a peak of 76% of Spanish national production, the carpet industry was centered in the century in the Alicante town of Crevillente, which currently continues to have great importance in the Spanish business fabric in the manufacture of carpets, both mechanically and manually.

In 1977, UNIFAM (National Union of Manufacturers of Carpets, Carpets, Coverings and Related and Family Industries) was established, an association that looks after the interests and development of the carpet industry.

The town of Crevillente (Alicante) was baptized as the City of the Carpet, due to its tradition and weight in the sector for centuries. In the century this textile industry began to develop, but it would be at the beginning of the century, with the arrival of the first mechanical looms, when it definitively took off, becoming a hallmark of the city.

Since 2016, the Carpet Fair has been held in the city, with the intention of strengthening a quality artisan industry, known internationally, organized by the Aytmo. of Crevillente, in collaboration with the UNIFAM association.
