Decarbonized urban mobility
Introduction
Moventia is a multinational family company specialized in the mobility sector. It offers collective transportation services—such as urban and interurban transportation with buses, trams, and tourist trains, among others—as well as private mobility. [1].
It was founded in Sabadell in 1923[2] and currently has a presence on three continents: Europe, Asia and South America, with a special focus on France and Saudi Arabia. In Spain, it began its activity in Catalonia and is currently also present in communities such as Madrid, the Balearic Islands, Navarra and Andalusia.
History
1923 - 1939.
In 1923 the company was founded by Miquel Martí Adell, with a single city bus in Sabadell and a small vehicle repair workshop in the same city.[3] The Martí family acquired the Barcelona bus line, known as La Catalana in 1933. The company had 50 workers and 15 buses in 1936, when the Civil War broke out. Miquel Martí Adell can only keep the workshop.
1940 - 1950.
After the end of the war, Miquel Martí Adell recovered the property of the transport company and part of the confiscated vehicles, which despite their poor conditions he could repair and get ready to circulate again. The transport company reestablished its service after a few months, but has to face the shortage of fuel and the lack of essential materials for transport, derived from the restrictions and international isolation in the Spanish State.
1951 - 1979.
The Martí family group of companies begins its expansion stage with the second generation of the family already at the helm, Heribert and Miquel Martí Carceller. The group grows beyond Catalonia and takes over the urban service of the cities of Córdoba "Córdoba (Spain)") and Zaragoza. The automotive branch goes from being an official Renault agency, in Sabadell, to a dealer.
1980 - 1990.
The Martí family loses the urban transport concession in the city of Sabadell. The solution to continue being present in the sector is through the merger of the family business and Renom Bus. This is how the Sarbus Group, a transport operator in Catalonia, is born. In the automotive sector, it obtains the official Renault Industrial Vehicles concession, in Sabadell and Terrasa.
