Introduction
General de Rental of Machinery, S.A., known by its acronym GAM, is a multinational company of Spanish origin specialized in the comprehensive management of machinery parks. It offers a wide range of rental, purchase, sale, maintenance, training, logistics and insurance services.[1]
Founded in 2003, the company was born from the integration of several leading companies in its sector. It currently operates in 10 countries in Europe, Latin America, North Africa and the Middle East and manages almost 15,000 devices. It has 75 branches and employs around 1,300 people. In addition, it is the only company in its field of activity that is listed on the Madrid Stock Exchange.
History
Birth of the company
GAM was born in 2003 by the merger of Alquioviedo (Asturias), Aldaiturriaga (Basque Country, Madrid and Levante) and TCabrera (Andalusia). During the following years, the company established a growth strategy that led it to expand to Portugal, through the purchase of different leading companies in the sector.
Going public
In 2006, GAM went public under the symbol GAMQ and became the only company in the sector listed in Spain. Venture capital companies, especially Dinamia, participated in the design of the operation. The starting price of its share was 8.25 euros.
International expansion and increase in services
International expansion to new continents and specialization in rental according to the market it is aimed at became the company's strategy during the following years.
Since 2004, when its first branch opened in Portugal, the company has expanded to 14 countries around the world. In 2007 it settled in Romania, Bulgaria and Poland. In turn, the company focuses on leasing specialization according to the business it is aimed at: industry, energy, roads and ports or green spaces.
That same year, the Prosec company was purchased and the GAM Eventos brand was born, specializing in machinery and audiovisual equipment for events.
