Corrosion test on armor
Introduction
Carmen Andrade Perdrix (Madrid, 1947) doctor in Industrial Chemistry, internationally known for her studies on the corrosion of steel in reinforced concrete and the design and application of non-destructive techniques for measuring structural integrity and corrosion rate.[1].
Biography
In 1969 she graduated in Chemical Sciences from the Complutense University of Madrid and this same year she began working as an intern at the “Eduardo Torroja” Construction and Cement Institute of the Higher Council for Scientific Research (CSIC). He obtained his doctorate in Industrial Chemistry in 1973, also at the UCM, with the thesis titled: New electrochemical technique for measuring the corrosion rate in reinforced and prestressed concrete. Use of corrosion inhibitors as a protection method.
In 1979 she joined the CSIC as a Senior Scientist. In 1987 she passed the opposition to become Research Professor at the CSIC, and until 2000 she was the only woman with this status in the Materials Area. She has been Director of the Eduardo Torroja Institute of Construction Sciences (CSIC) during the periods 1985-1988 and 1993-2003.
Since March 2017 she has been retired.

A lo largo de su carrera ha seguido la línea ya iniciada en su tesis doctoral investigando la durabilidad de las construcciones e infraestructuras y el tratamiento de sus patologías, especialmente la corrosión del acero en el hormigón armado, su detección, y los métodos de protección y reparación. En este ámbito es autora de unos 220 artículos en revistas y otro gran número de publicaciones.[2].
Sus aportes más relevantes están en el diseño y aplicación de técnicas no destructivas de medida de la integridad estructural y la velocidad de corrosión. Siempre trabaja conectando la investigación básica con su aplicación en situaciones concretas.[3].
