Consumables for Water Cut
Definition and Introduction
Basic concept of water cutting consumables
Water cutting consumables are the materials and components used in water jet cutting or abrasive water cutting processes. These consumables are essential to guarantee the precision, efficiency and durability of the cutting equipment, as well as the quality of the finish on the processed materials. Water cutting is a technique that uses a high-pressure water jet, sometimes mixed with abrasives, to cut various materials without generating heat or deformation.
In this context, consumables include parts such as nozzles, mixers, guide tubes, abrasives, and other items that are worn or consumed during the process. Its correct selection and maintenance are essential to optimize cutting performance, avoid downtime and reduce operating costs.
Types of consumables for water cutting
cutting nozzles
Nozzles are one of the most critical consumables in water cutting. Its function is to concentrate and direct the high-pressure water jet with the necessary precision to make clean and exact cuts. There are nozzles made of materials such as tungsten carbide, diamond or sapphire, which offer high resistance to wear caused by the abrasion of water and cut materials.
The nozzles can be of different diameters and shapes, depending on the type of cut and the machine used. Their wear directly affects the quality of the cut and the efficiency of the process, so they must be replaced periodically according to the manufacturer's instructions.
In addition, there are specific nozzles for cutting with pure water (without abrasives) and for abrasive cutting, the latter being more resistant to withstand the mixture of water and abrasive particles.
Guide tubes and high pressure tubes
Guide tubes are internal components that channel the water jet from the nozzle to the material to be cut. They are generally made of tungsten carbide due to its high hardness and wear resistance. Its main function is to maintain jet alignment and minimize pressure loss.
