Connection with nature
Introduction
biophilia is our sense of connection with nature and with other forms of life of an innate nature and evolutionary product of natural selection that acts in intelligent species whose survival depends on the close connection with the environment and the practical appreciation of plants and animals.[1].
Biophilia (Biophilia in the original English) is a book by Edward Osborne Wilson written in 1984, winner of two Pulitzer Prizes.
Definitions of biophilia
The first to use the term biophilia was Erich Fromm (Von der Kunst des Zuhörens [On the art of listening], 1991; Wilhelm Heyne Verlag, Munich). According to him, biophilia is:
Edward O. Wilson elaborated on this concept in greater detail and suggests that humans feel an innate affinity for all living things. Wilson, American biologist born in 1929, professor emeritus at Harvard University, is also co-author of the concept of biodiversity.
In anthropology the term is frequently used as opposed to constructivism "Constructivism (philosophy)") which discarded the determining influence that biology has had in different ethnographic studies, especially with regard to sexual issues.
John N. Gray, in his book Straw Dogs, points out that biophilia is the precarious emotional bond that binds humanity to the earth, an emotional bond of those who fight to conserve what remains of wild nature and living beings. Rifkin points out that true earth lovers dream not of becoming stewards of the planet, but of the day when human beings no longer matter.[2].
