Basic concept of concrete pavers

Concrete pavers are prefabricated elements used mainly for paving streets, sidewalks, squares and other outdoor spaces. They are manufactured from a mixture of cement, aggregates, water and additives, molded and compacted to obtain resistant and durable pieces. Its shape is generally prismatic, with standardized dimensions that facilitate its placement and stability.

This type of pavers is distinguished by its high mechanical resistance and its versatility in design, allowing the creation of aesthetic patterns that improve the functionality and visual value of paved surfaces. Furthermore, its prefabricated manufacturing enables rigorous quality and uniformity control, which contributes to the durability of the flooring.

Composition and materials

Concrete pavers are mainly composed of Portland cement, natural or recycled aggregates, water and specific additives that improve their technical characteristics. The proportion of these materials is defined depending on the type of paver and the required resistance, being essential to control the granulometry of the aggregates to guarantee good compaction and durability.

Additives may include plasticizers, to improve workability; waterproofing, to protect against water absorption; and pigments, to confer color and improve aesthetics. The correct dosage of these components is key to obtaining a final product that meets the mechanical and environmental requirements of the project.

In addition, the concrete curing process is essential to develop adequate resistance, which is why wet curing techniques or controlled atmospheres are used, guaranteeing complete hydration of the cement and reducing the possibility of cracks or defects.

Mechanical resistance and durability

Concrete pavers have a high compressive strength, typically greater than 30 MPa, making them suitable for supporting vehicular and pedestrian loads. This resistance allows its use on urban roads, parking lots and industrial areas with moderate to heavy traffic.
