College of Architects of Venezuela is a union organization, with the status of a legal entity, that brings together Venezuelan architectural professionals. Established on April 15, 1946 under the name Venezuelan Society of Architects, Carlos Raúl Villanueva being one of the main protagonists in the founding process of said entity. Its function is to bring together, register and accredit the country's Architects. It has its main headquarters in the city of Caracas and other regional headquarters throughout the nation.
Background
In the history of architecture in Venezuela, it has a history of union organization dating back to the century with the creation of the College of Engineers of Venezuela in 1861, where the country was going through an armed conflict between Venezuelan caudillos, an event known in the history of that country as the Federal War.[2] Said college was conceived as a consultative body at the service of the Venezuelan State, which received a boost with the formation of the Ministry of Public Works in 1874 during the presidency of General Antonio Guzmán Blanco, which allowed him to consolidate his functions as advisor of the works carried out by the Venezuelan Government through that Ministry. this during the presidency of Ignacio Andrade.
This last Society is a precedent of the later Venezuelan Society of Architects existing from the 1940s onwards.[3].

The origins of what is now known as the College of Architects of Venezuela date back to the year 1940, where some architectural professionals at that time proceeded to organize some meetings in Caracas, a city popularly known as the City of Red Roofs (in relation to the buildings built in the early century whose roofs were covered with red tiles).
Among those attending the meetings were four young men, architectural professionals, their names: Carlos Raúl Villanueva, Rafael Bergamín, Heriberto González Méndez") and Roberto Henríquez"), these personalities used to meet informally, whose relationship was friendly and all of this was done with the purpose of transmitting ideas about the rules that should govern said profession in Venezuela.
It was in these meetings that the idea of founding an association was generated, with the aim of bringing together architects, so these four young people decided to convene several to carry out the meeting with formal characteristics. This meeting took place on July 4, 1945, where the project of establishing a formal association called: Venezuelan Society of Architects was formalized. The founding architects were: Rafael Bergamín, Luis Eduardo Chataing, Cipriano Domínguez"), Enrique García Maldonado"), Heriberto González Méndez"), Roberto Henríquez") and Carlos Raúl Villanueva. The installation ceremony of the new entity took place at the headquarters of the College of Engineers of Venezuela.

• - Vice President: Luis Eduardo Chataing.
• - Secretary: Heriberto González Méndez").
During much of their career they provided advisory services to various authorities of the Venezuelan federation (municipal, state and national governments). They were also participants in the creation of the School of Architecture of the Central University of Venezuela, they promoted the first participation and first headquarters in Caracas of the Pan-American Congress of Architecture), they proceeded to publish the SVA magazine (today CAV Magazine) and finally carried out the process of creation and consolidation of the National Planning Directorate.
National Architecture Award
It is an award given to Venezuelan architects for their professional career that from 1963 to 1991 was awarded by the College of Architects of Venezuela. It is currently delivered by the National Council of Culture.
The College of Architects of Venezuela is in charge of organizing the national architecture biennials, where relevant works carried out by Venezuelan architects are awarded in various categories. Likewise, the Grand Biennial prize is awarded to the most outstanding work.
