The course of action is often the same: one or more activists block a road or a popular event with sit-ins. They wear an orange vest or a white t-shirt with a message written in black.[8]​.

This message often includes a number corresponding to the number of days that, according to them, remain to avoid tipping points ("Tipping Point (climatology)") beyond which global warming would skyrocket to the point of threatening the existence of billions of human beings. Activists explain this choice by referring to the words of Sir David King, British climatologist and former scientific advisor to the British government, delivered at a conference in 202: “You have to go very fast. I am convinced that what we do in the next three or four years will determine the future of the human species."[12]​.

The organization's first action dates back to April 1, 2022 in Paris, when a dozen citizens blocked traffic on the ring road for 30 minutes at noon and also sent a letter to the government asking it to "fully finance the energy renovation of the homes of all households in a situation of energy poverty, from now to 2030 and to make the global renovation of the French housing stock mandatory within a period of six months from now to 2040."

Activists sometimes stick their hands to the asphalt to avoid being evicted,[13][14]​ most of the time in the Paris region,[15][16][17]​ but also in Lyon and Toulouse for example.[18][19]​.

On December 7, 2023, its activists blocked the Concorde Bridge "Puente de la Concorde (Paris)") to ask the National Assembly for an "ambitious thermal renovation plan" before being evacuated by the police.[20]​.

On June 3, 2022, during the Roland-Garros tennis tournament between Marin Čilić and Casper Ruud on the Philippe-Chatrier court, a young woman tied herself to the net by her neck with the text written on her shirt in English "We have 1028 days left", the match was interrupted for 13 minutes.[9][21][22]​.

On June 19, during the final of the ATP tournament between Daniil Medvedev and Hubert Hurkacz in Halle, Germany, a woman tried to tie herself to the net, wearing a T-shirt with the inscription in German "only three years left."[23] On July 12, the 2022 Tour de France was stopped for a few minutes by association activists in the town of Magland, near Sallanches.[24] They explained in an interview that they had chosen the least venue. dangerous for runners.[25]​ On November 5, two movement activists clung to rugby posts, with "plastic hose clamps",[26]​ during the Top 14 match between Stade Toulouse and Stade français.[27]​.

On Monday, October 31, an activist from the movement held on to the flag of the Pantheon in Paris and lowered it to half-mast to denounce that "The government is not taking meaningful measures to stop climate change."[10]​ [28]​.

Activists sprayed paint on symbolic places, such as the Hôtel de Matignon, residence of Prime Minister Élisabeth Borne,[29]​ the Ministry of Economy and the Ministry of Ecological Transition in January 2023.[30]​ On Wednesday, April 19, 2023, three activists sprayed the façade of the headquarters of the Regional Council "Regional Council (France)") of Occitania in Toulouse with erasable orange paint to protest against the A69 motorway project.[31][32][33][34][35][36] In December 2023, activists covered the Christmas tree on Kléber Square with orange paint.[37][38]​.

An activist interrupted a BFMTV program to which Marion Maréchal-Le Pen was invited.[39]​.

Court cases

As a result of these actions, in many cases activists are detained by the police and prosecuted in court. Activists use his trial as a platform to continue their advocacy work,[40]​ recalling in particular the condemnation of the French state for its climate inaction and stating that they will continue their actions as long as it does not act sufficiently against global warming.[41]​.
