civic axis
Introduction
The Civic Axis (also known as Fundamental Axis or Monumental Axis) of La Plata is a set of public buildings of monumental scale that form the civic center of the city, along avenues 51 and 53, between Plazas Moreno and San Martín "Plaza San Martín (La Plata)").
The “axis” was laid out and planned by the engineer Pedro Benoit on behalf of the Government of the Province of Buenos Aires under Dardo Rocha, in 1882. The layout of the streets began that year, and the construction of public buildings advanced during the following decade, although it was damaged by the crisis of 1890.
