Chamber of Contractors
Introduction
The Venezuelan Chamber of Construction is a civil association of collective interest, non-profit, whose purpose is the promotion, development and protection of the Construction Industry in Venezuela. (FIIC).[2].
History
Once the dictatorship of Juan Vicente Gómez ended, a period began in Venezuela that gave importance to the development of public works, initially with the so-called "Triennial Plan" presented by President Eleazar López Contreras in 1938 and later with the "National Public Works Plan" presented by Isaías Medina Angarita in 1942,[3] which contemplated works such as the redevelopment of El Silencio, carried out by the Architect Carlos Raúl Villanueva and the sculptor Francisco Narváez, thus creating opportunities for the development of the private sector and the need to train qualified personnel to carry out the development of these projects. On August 17, 1943, the Association "Association (Law)") of Construction Contractors of the Federal District was founded, the first employers' association of builders with union objectives. In 1944 it was renamed the Construction Employers' Association, and by decision of the General Assembly on April 20, 1948, it changed its name again to be called the Construction Chamber; and in 1957 it assumed its definitive name Venezuelan Chamber of Construction.[4] Its first president was Luis Enrique Franceschi (1944-1946) and currently it has representation in 20 states of the country.[5].
CVC Foundation
Created in April 2010, with the aim of stimulating among members of the Chamber, support for welfare organizations and educational institutions, dedicated to serving low-income populations.[6].
Since 1999, the Venezuelan Chamber of Construction developed the subject "Construction Management - CVC" which was incorporated as a mandatory subject in the Civil Engineering curriculum at the Metropolitan University. Starting in 2006, an agreement was signed with the Central University of Venezuela to implement the subject, which is taught in the faculties of Architecture and Urban Planning and Engineering. The subject is coordinated by professors from the University but taught by Engineers and Architects related to the Chamber of Construction.[7] Since 2014, the Andrés Bello Catholic University joined the agreement.[8].
