Tray dryers involve loading wet material onto perforated trays stacked within an enclosed chamber, where hot air is recirculated by fans to pass over the trays, drying the material in batches. This setup allows for controlled airflow and temperature, making it ideal for heat-sensitive products requiring gentle drying. Tunnel dryers extend this principle to continuous operation, with material-laden trays or belts moving through a long tunnel while counter- or co-current hot air flows, enhancing throughput for larger-scale production. Fluidized bed dryers suspend solid particles in an upward-flowing hot gas stream, creating a fluid-like state that maximizes contact and uniformity. Construction elements like liners, seals, and insulation are chosen for robustness under operational stresses. Internal liners often employ abrasion-resistant coatings or alloys to protect against material wear, while seals utilize high-durometer elastomers or mechanical designs to maintain airtight integrity.[38] For high-temperature zones, ceramic fiber insulation is favored for its low thermal conductivity (typically 0.1-0.2 W/m·K at elevated temperatures) and ability to withstand up to 1400°C without degradation, reducing energy losses in rotary or fluidized bed dryers.[39]

Industrial dryers play a crucial role in minerals and materials handling by removing moisture from ores, concentrates, and bulk solids to facilitate processing, transportation, and storage.
