Elektriska Aktiebolaget (Swedish: 'Electric Company') was a company founded by Ludwig Fredholm in Stockholm in 1883 to manufacture dynamos designed by a young engineer named Jonas Wenström. The subsequent success prompted Fredholm to expand operations and merge with Goran Wenström, Jonas's brother. The company resulting from the merger, named Allmänna Svenska Elektriska Aktiebolaget (ASEA) was created on November 18, 1890 with the purpose of providing electrical equipment for Swedish industry in general. Goran Wenstrom shared management responsibilities with Fredholm, who also served as Chairman of the Board.
