Bio-deterioration
Introduction
The damage caused to various materials as a result of the action of biological agents such as bacteria, fungi, lichens or insects is known as biodeterioration. It is common to find this type of damage in materials and objects of organic origin, such as paper, leather, wood and fabrics. Damage constitutes a serious problem when it comes to objects corresponding to collections, archives or museums.[1][2] It is common to find biodeterioration in objects and structures of heritage value, such as statues composed of inorganic materials (metals, granite, cement), with a high content of minerals and nutritional salts for organisms that constitute biofilms.
