The notebook or work log is a notebook in which students, designers, fine artists, among others, develop their sketches, take note of memories and any information that they consider may be useful for their work.

Its relevance is such that in recent years exhibitions have been held on the logs of different artists. The name log is based on the travel logs that were used on ships to recount the development of the trip and that were located in the log. Although the name has become popular in recent years due to its use in graphic arts, the workbook or sketchbook has always been used by visual artists. Scientists often develop logs during their research to explain processes and share their experiences.
