Bernard Tschumi (Theorist)
Introduction
Bernard Tschumi (born January 25, 1944 in Lausanne, Switzerland) is a Swiss-French architect.
Career
His work is usually considered within deconstructivism, but his theoretical position is mainly based on the practice of the designer's personal freedom regarding his works. He studied in Paris and at the Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) in Zurich and in 1981 he began his independent professional activity. The following year he won the competition for the Parc de La Villette in Paris and in 1983 he opened his studio in Paris. Between 1988 and 2003 he was dean of the Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation at Columbia University in New York. Among his most recognized works are the Parc de La Villette and the Acropolis Museum of Athens.
