Introduction
Materials testing is called a foolproof test whose purpose is to determine the mechanical properties of a material.
All houses, all cars, like any structure or machinery are made of different materials, chosen for their properties to be used in a specific application. The design of the shape and sections must be carried out with economic criteria, that is, the smallest possible amount of material must be used, but a series of safety specifications must also be met to prevent mechanical failures from occurring.
Therefore, knowledge of the properties of materials is of utmost importance to carry out an adequate design. To determine the properties there are a series of standardized tests. Particularly in Spain, the standardized body is Aenor, and the standards they dictate are called Una Norma Española (UNE).

Depending on the rigor of the test
Results are obtained regarding the numerical values of certain physical quantities. They allow obtaining precise and reproducible values of the tested properties, since the conditions to which the material is subjected are standardized. An example of this test is the tensile test, from which the tensile strength is obtained, and is expressed in kp/mm².
We will quickly know the approximate composition, treatment or type of conformation of some material. They will inform us to know if a material will be able to withstand the conditions of stress and loads that it will suffer under normal working conditions (not quantitative values) and faithfully reproduce the working conditions.
They are used to check if the properties of a material or part are suitable for a certain use or if these properties are those assumed. An example of this test is drop tests, malleability tests for a forging material or alternative bending tests on wires, in which the number of times a piece of wire can be alternately bent without breaking is counted.
