Basic concept of weighing
An axle weigher is a system or device designed to accurately measure the weight of the individual axles of a vehicle, especially heavy vehicles such as trucks and trailers. This weighing method is essential to verify the load supported by each axle, thus guaranteeing compliance with traffic and road safety regulations.
Unlike total vehicle weighing, axle weighing makes it possible to detect localized overloads that can damage road infrastructure or generate road safety risks. For this reason, axle weighing is used both in traffic controls and in logistics and commercial operations.
Types of Weighing Machines
Portable weighers
Portable weighers are systems designed to facilitate weighing in the field or at temporary locations. They generally consist of platforms or metal plates that are placed under each axle of the vehicle to measure the load they support. Its portability allows its use in mobile inspections or situations where fixed infrastructure is not available.
These devices are easy to transport and usually have electronic sensors that transmit data to a control unit or portable display. Its accuracy is suitable for most control applications and allows rapid measurement without the need for permanent infrastructure.
The use of portable weighers is common at highway checkpoints, mobile weighing plants and in vehicle inspection in rural or difficult-to-access areas, where it is not feasible to install fixed scales.
Fixed or integrated weighing machines
Fixed axle weighers are integrated into the road infrastructure using platforms or weighbridges that incorporate load sensors for each axle. These systems allow simultaneous and automatic weighing of all vehicle axles, providing accurate and real-time data.
This type of axle weigher is installed in weighing stations, control plants or industrial areas, where constant and reliable control of the weight of vehicles is required. Integration with computer systems allows documented management and automated cargo control.
