Alarm buttons
Introduction
The manual alarm call point or manual station is a device that is designed to be activated in the event of fire, by pressing a button (European type) or pulling a lever (American type). When activated, the device immediately informs the fire detection center. Modern pushbuttons have a red LED to indicate that they have been activated.
Some pushbuttons have a key to reset them after activation, but in most cases this type of security is not necessary, the button (European type) must be moved to the original position or the lever (American type) must be moved to the original position and must be reset on the panel.
By European standard EN54, fire detection panels must be reset after receiving the signal from a manual fire call point or any other element so that the system returns to normal, even if the sirens have not been activated.[1][2][3].
Operation
When the manual alarm call point or manual station is activated, it transmits a signal to the Fire Detection Central. This activates a buzzer (low volume alarm located in the same control panel) and after a few seconds or minutes, depending on the regulations, it will activate the sirens, either general or for a specific sector (programmable sirens), depending on the building and programming; and carries out safety maneuvers, such as opening or closing doors and gas valves, illuminating evacuation signs and emergency exits, etc. The sirens and maneuvers are programmed following the building's evacuation plan.
