Advanced video surveillance systems
Introduction
IP video surveillance is a visual surveillance technology that combines the analog benefits of traditional CCTV (Closed Circuit Television) with the digital advantages of IP (Internet Protocol) communication networks, allowing local and/or remote monitoring of images and audio as well as the digital processing of images, for applications such as license plate recognition or facial recognition, among others.
Deployment is simpler and cheaper than CCTV, since it takes advantage of the business computer network, that is, the same wiring used for data communication, Internet access or email, without the need to deploy a specific coaxial cabling infrastructure for our video surveillance network. Most of the most modern installations are abandoning analog technology in favor of IP video surveillance, given its versatility, functionality, simplicity and optimization of the company's existing infrastructure.
Among the most notable advances in recent years, in addition to wireless capabilities that even eliminate cable laying, are the high image resolution offered by megapixel cameras (1.3 megapixels), the inclusion of intelligence systems for video processing and event management or digital counters. It is possible to capture video and store it at a few frames per second or activate recording only in certain circumstances, either by detecting movements in a certain area or by time slots.
The improvement in resolution is accompanied by high compression rates to avoid high consumption of bandwidth and storage space, with standards such as H.264, which significantly simplify storage in NVRs (Network Video Recorders) or video servers compared to other formats such as Motion JPEG video, MPEG-4.
These technological advances have led consultancies such as IP Video Market, in their report 'Video Surveillance Market Size and Forecast Guide 2010', to estimate that the IP video surveillance market will surpass that of CCTV (analogue) between 2010 and 2012, with a growth of 200%.
History
First IP camera, the Neteye 200, was published by Axis Communications in 1996.
In 2005, the first camera with onboard video content analysis (IntelliCAD) was created. Today, they have promised that video surveillance will be used anywhere in the world.
