Advanced Prefabrication
Introduction
A modular building is made up of various repeated sections, called modules, that are built far from the site where said building will be located. These prefabricated sections are produced in the factory and then transported to the site where their assembly, assembly and final installation will be completed.
The construction of modular buildings, both residential and commercial and industrial, is a fast and efficient way to build high-quality structures with lower costs. Therefore, the construction of modular buildings is the objective of arduous research and development of new methods and techniques, especially through the application of new technologies such as 3D modeling and BIM. This research and development is promoted by companies in the sector as well as by institutes such as the Steel Construction Institute [3] and the Modular Building Institute.[4].
Uses
The uses and applications in which modular buildings can be used are very varied. They can be used for both fixed and mobile, and temporary or permanent installations, such as schools, hospitals and healthcare centers, commercial and industrial facilities, etc.
They are usually used in remote and/or rural areas as well as in areas where there are climatic problems such as hurricanes. They are also used for temporary purposes such as bathing and ablutions at events, as they provide facilities that are not available in the places where these events are held.
Another innovative use that demonstrates the wide range of uses that can be given to modular constructions is found in the luxury camping market, where private modular bathrooms with avant-garde designs are installed that offer all the comforts to travelers with high purchasing power. With a design that complements the natural environment and respects environmental sustainability.[5].
