Currently, the Project Management Institute offers eight types of certification:.

2. • Project Management Professional (PMP) is one who has undergone specific education and experience requirements, has agreed to adhere to a code of professional conduct, and has passed a 200-question exam designed to objectively measure his or her knowledge of project management. 4,500 hours of work are required in a project team. Additionally, you must satisfy ongoing certification requirements, or else you lose certification.

3. • Portfolio Management Professional (PfMP) The PfMP certification recognizes advanced experience, skill and performance necessary to manage and align a portfolio of projects and programs to realize organizational strategies and objectives. PfMP certification holders oversee the success of one or more portfolios, balance conflicting demands between programs and projects, and allocate resources based on organizational priorities and capabilities.

4. • Program Management Professional (PgMP) is one who has undergone specific education and has vast experience in project and program management, and has also agreed to adhere to the PMI code of ethics and professional conduct. 8 years of experience working in project teams, knowledge testing and interviews by PMI staff are required. CAPM or PMP credentials are not prerequisites for this certification.
