Advanced document management
Introduction
Orfeo/GPL is a free software document management tool covered under the GNU GPL license, highly scalable, developed under PHP that incorporates the idea of "fractalizing processes" to facilitate the management of documents for any company.
Orfeo is a web application written in PHP, which runs on Apache and has support for PostgreSQL, Oracle DB and Microsoft SQL Server database engines, requiring the client to have a browser that meets W3C standards such as Firefox or Chrome, or any other web browser.
Orfeo/GPL is originally a product developed in Colombia at the Superintendency of Home Public Services, which was registered in 2006 by its creators before the National Directorate of Author Registration with the GPL License, therefore any fork or new development will remain free.
History
OrfeoGPL was conceptualized in 2002 by Denis López, developed by Jairo Hernán Losada, Liliana Gómez and Julián Rolon with the collaboration of other engineers[1] putting an initial version of the product based on code sections of 'DocuImage' (a software that allowed the visualization of documents through the browser) on which Jairo Losada also worked.
After the first developments, a name was sought for the tool and in a vote among some users and developers, Julián Rolón's proposal was chosen in 2003: Orfeo, because unlike other proposals such as DOCFile, PAD (Document Administration Platform), etc., which were looking for acronyms, the explanation of Orfeo simply indicated "Greek bard who accompanied Jason in the search for the golden fleece": that difference marked luck. of the application name.
License
In 2006, the authors of the tool, after reviewing more than 12 free and open source software licenses, decided to adopt the GPL License for the project; That same year they launched the OrfeoGPL community, with the enthusiastic collaboration of several users and the invitation to Richard Stallman for the event, in this way the distribution of the tool began on the orfeoGPL.org site, where a large number of Engineers already participated and would contribute with many new functionalities.
